The Reverdy family have been vignerons in Sancerre since 1646. Today Jean and his son Christophe cultivate six hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and about two hectares of Pinot Noir. Christophe trained at the viticultural school at Beaune. There are at least ten Reverdy ‘s making wine in Sancerre!
Jean and Christophe's vineyards are situated on the Coteaux de Verdigny and on the slopes below the town of Sancerre itself – notably within the lieu-dit Clos de la Reine Blanche, which is wholly-owned by the domaine.
The small, immaculate winery is in the village of Verdigny; it is fully equipped with stainless steel, temperature control and all modern requirements. Sancerre Blanc remains in vat until bottled in the Spring following the harvest; Sancerre Rouge and Rosé spend up to a year in old oak. La Reine Blanche will age well for 3-4 years after the vintage.
The harvest is made by hand, by a team who have over the years become friends of the family.
Sancerre (Blanc) ‘ la Reine Blanche’ and Sancerre (Rouge and Rosé) ‘Les Villots’ are hand-made wines and numerous prizes at the Paris and Mâcon wine fairs, as well as citations in the major text books, attest to their fine quality.
