The Domaine Chandon de Briailles has belonged to the family of the Comte Aymard-Claude de Nicolay since 1834. The current Count inherited the estate from his grandmother the Comtesse Chandon de Briailles, herself related to the Chandons of Moët et Chandon. Apart from the vineyards, there is a fine 18th Century manoir and an important and historic formal garden.
The vineyard is distributed over four communes (a relatively recent addition in Volnay results from the marriage of Claude into the Drouhin family), with a fine holding on the hill of Corton.
The vineyard is cultivated without the use of artificial fertilisers, herbicides or insecticides. Since 2005, the domaine has been cultivated completely on bio-dynamic lines. The aim each year is to achieve as nearly a perfect balance in the grapes as possible. Wine making is conducted on traditional Burgundian lines and the result is wines of great elegance and refinement.
